You've Got Mail

Daisies are indeed friendly, and so is Meg Ryan and bouquets of freshly sharpened pencils.
I'm going to declare this a modern classic - two thumbs up.

Thursday 28 March 2013

Lena Dunham X Rachel Antonoff

Wes Anderson X Amelie X Girls X David Attenborough
One thumbs up, for liking the concept of this 'short film' enough to include it in the blog, even though I realise it is stretching the definition of 'movie' (well more like shrinking it haha! I'm so punny).

Wednesday 27 March 2013

Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants

This movie is what put the Greek Islands on my radar a long time ago, though I never at all expected I might be going soon.
One and a half thumbs up, and for maintaining top stop as my ultimate lame-guilty-pleasure-movie.

Sunday 24 March 2013

The Black Balloon

This is my favourite Australian film.
One and a half thumbs up.

Friday 22 March 2013

Under the Tuscan Sun

...and then the handsome Italian man holds an adorable kitten, and you succumb to the cliche and go 'awwww....!'
One and a half thumbs up, for not meaning to watch this, but then earning a place in the 'lame guilty pleasure' movie list simply because it is set in Italy and filmed in the beautiful touristy-but-it-literally-looks-like-that way.

Tuesday 19 March 2013

Moonrise Kingdom

A collection of the most picturesque postcard moments from le film.
Two thumbs up for feeling less feverish now on my sick day, and technology win points for figuring out the html code to get pictures side by side!

Monday 18 March 2013

Mean Girls

When I was in high school, I had a friend who wasn't allowed to watch this movie because her mum thought the title was pornographic.
Two thumbs up, but "*cough cough* I'm sick" (fever shivering today).

Marie Antoinette

This may be the prettiest movie I've ever seen - the costumes, accessories, mise en scene, actual Versaille location!
One thumbs down because despite it being a feast for the eyes, the story was not well done.

Saturday 16 March 2013

Les adieux à la reine (Farewell, My Queen)

Unsatisfying - nothing happened for either the assasination or the lesbian front.
One thumbs down, but one thumbs up for seeing Rebecca's popcorn boxes.

Friday 15 March 2013

Helvetica

I wonder what people think of Garamond (my font of choice).
One thumbs up, and now also wondering how does one make money from inventing a font - is it a lump sum buy or via royalties?

Thursday 14 March 2013

Take My Picture (a short doco)

I knew Anna Dello Russo was mutton dressed as lamb, but seeing her trot about showing off for the street photographers was confirming and HILARIOUS.
One thumbs up for calling out the peacocking that goes along with this phenomena, and surprise smiles for Susie Bubble's beautiful English accent!

Wednesday 13 March 2013

Pitch Perfect

But who DOESN'T know David Geutta?
One thumbs down for being just a collection of mashed up songs, and an extra half down for being based on a book (but how?)

Sunday 10 March 2013

The Bachelorette

Simultaneous movie conditions: new to all of us, light-hearted, and no Big Mommas!
One thumbs down for failed synchronisation (haha!), another thumbs down for this pathetic attempt at a 'female-Hangover' movie, and one ick face at all these little black speck bugs that have flown into my room taking advantage of the open windows.

THIS IS NOT A MOVIE, THIS IS AN ATTEMPT TO SHARE A GIF

Two thumbs down for breaking my own blog rules, but two thumbs up if this is successful.

Django Unchained

50 cent tickets, and questionably fresher popcorn?
One and a half thumbs up for the riches of this Tarantino-styled Western, and for NOT feeling as if the film dragged on (unlike the general critic opinion).

Tuesday 5 March 2013

The Hangover

Sitting on the couch, sticking my finger in my mouth, and discovering that the inside of the bottom row of teeth is smoother on the right side than the left side... I wonder why?
One and three quarters thumbs up.

Sunday 3 March 2013

Inception

I don't understand - if the architect can plan the dreamscape, but the other person fills it with their projections, who is the primary dreamer? Whose dream are we in? Is it based on who falls asleep first? How can a second person alter the dreamscape of the first dreamer? Or does order not matter?
One thumbs up for a slightly better sense of it this second time round, and another for how delicious Tom Hardy is sans Bane-mask or voice (English! accented)

Beginners

Well I liked the 'this is what pretty/pets/happy/weather look liked' montages.
One thumbs down, because considering the IMDB one line blurb (elderly father has terminal cancer, and a young male lover) - it was just underwhelming and boring.
