Monday 26 December 2016

Love Actually

M's are sluts haha.
Two thumbs up, and zero points to me for cutting the onions better, but the grass jelly worse.

Monday 19 December 2016

Rogue One

I am a bit spooked by the fact that the grey commander guy whose waxy hollow face I described as 'dead', is actually dead, and this was CGI.
One thumbs up - it was not lame.

Sunday 18 December 2016

Elf

After a cranky late afternoon, watching Elf, and my successful rosemary mac 'n' cheese certainly cheered me up!
One thumbs up, and perhaps I can sneak in some of this soundtrack on Christmas Day hehe.

Wednesday 14 December 2016

Brooklyn

Aww, Jim is a good catch for someone.
One and a half thumbs up, and can't believe I cried when she says goodbye to her mother instead of the homesick letters scene this time around.

Tuesday 13 December 2016

Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping

Justin Timberlake cutting carrots quietly was funny.
Zero thumbs up - I see where you are going with this, but it could have been a lot shorter.

Wednesday 30 November 2016

12 Angry Men

I was riveted from the get go - no time wasting, we dive right in straight away, and just marvel at how beautifully the case gets untangled.
Just a fingernail shy of two thumbs up - that was amazing, but I am hesitant to give it two full thumbs up until it stands the test of repeated viewing.

Tuesday 29 November 2016

8 1/2

He should have just done a Coleridge and gotten himself underneath a Bower tree,
One thumbs down - I didn't find it engaging, and am torn about feeling that way - I feel good that I can form my own opinion and am not swayed by how critics regard it, but then I also feel bad because perhaps I am not intellectual/cultured enough?

Saturday 26 November 2016

John Wick

I know your wife is dead and all, but this really is too much revenge for a car and dog.
One thumbs down - if you like watching Keanu Reeves shoot up loads of Mafia men and not say much, then this is the movie for you. Otherwise just watch the first 10 minutes to squeal at the beagle puppy's cuteness and then stop.

Friday 25 November 2016

Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them

I always imagined Grindelwald to look Swedish - basically not blonde Johnny Depp (just no).
One and a half thumbs up! I felt exactly like Mr. NoMag walking into that suitcase - so full of enchantment in this fantastical world! And I could not decide what was cuter - the thieving platypus or Queenie and Kowalski!

Tuesday 22 November 2016

Hell or Highwater

The man a few rows behind us laughed raucously at: 1. when the third getaway car was revealed, 2. when the tip was $200.
Half a thumbs up, it was simple but still intriguing enough.

Sunday 20 November 2016

You've Got Mail

"Don't you just love New York in the fall?" Why yes, yes I do!
Two thumbs up!

Tuesday 15 November 2016

Cafe Society

I guess sometimes we are just left to ponder and dream about the other person.
One thumbs up, it was nice in the end if not a bit distracted at times, but personal thumbs up to Kristen Stewart who was so beautiful and nuanced!

Saturday 5 November 2016

Doctor Strange

Could there be any more kaleidoscope effects?!
One thumbs down for special effects overload and for George St cinemas being too cold and uncomfortable.

Wednesday 2 November 2016

Bend It Like Beckham

It's funny how Keira Knightley does much more glamorous or period pieces, but she started so humbly in this movie.
One and a half thumbs up - I always like it, and especially as an ethnic person, it is very relateable.

Monday 31 October 2016

Bridget Jones' Diary

Haha I accidentally wrote "Dairy" at first. Haha imagine her dairy farm and cow dramas.
Two thumbs up, and three hours to go!!

In Bruges

Harry: It's a fairytale town, isn't it? How's a fairytale town not somebody's fucking thing? How can all those canals and bridges and cobbled streets and those churches, all that beautiful fucking fairytale stuff, how can that not be somebody's fucking thing, eh?
Ken: What I think I meant to say was...
Harry: [Interrupts] Is the swans still there?
One and a half thumbs up!

Secret Life of Pets

New York! in Fall! And a dog voiced by Louis C.K. that kind of has the same colouring as Schnitzel!
One and a quarter thumbs up!

Bad Moms

Everything about the PTA part is so stupid:
*How do they even have that much power to determine school days and hours, and who can be fired etc.?
*That is so sexist that they assume it is all females in the PTA
Two thumbs down - this is the WORST movie I have seen in ages. It is absolute tripe scum and possibly knocks off "Sugar and Spice" the crap cheerleading robbery movie as my worst movie ever. Even The Human Centipede had more redeeming features (and that was disgusting!)

Two Weeks Notice

I thought channel E! was just entertainment "news", but they had this movie.
Zero thumbs up, inoffensive viewing just to pass the time, because this is going to be a long painful journey home.

Friday 14 October 2016

Juno

I am always taken by Jennifer Garner in this.
One and a half thumbs up.

The Danish Girl

Alicia Vikander is so much more beautiful in film, than she is in Golden Globe photos etc.
Half a thumbs up, it was very beautiful but I don't think I could be as strong and supportive as Gerda was.

Empire Records

I have zero care for this silly ragtag bunch of teenagers:
*Smarmy boy who just gambles $9000 away with no punishment
*Silly naive Liv Tyler who is a total hypocrite
*That ridiculous punk thief kid who is so annoying, and what a dumbass way is that to get a job
*Stones deluded people who just decide to start a band based on a name
*Bald girl who is just so cliched and attention seeking
*Even dumber boss who just lets everyone get away with never working and stripping and grinding and not monitoring the store. And also has his name way overused ("Joe" must have been said 100 times)
*Cannot believe Renee Zellweger was the least sufferable of the group
Two thumbs down - that was awful. Terribly overrated and unbelieveable, with zero likeable characters. Cannot believe I used to confuse this with High Fidelity.

Ex Machina

Remember when Josh/Brad said the title was "Machinist" and I said "No, it is Ex Machina" and I was correct? :p
One and three quarters thumbs up - that was amazing and thought provoking and all the cast were magnificent new young things.

Thursday 22 September 2016

Mean Girls

Isn't it bemusing how the most technological thing was the three way phone call?
Two flawless thumbs up - this and cup noodles made up for forgetting to get off at Redfern and found myself going to Burwood.

Saturday 17 September 2016

The Jungle Book

This is a silly question, but this bear likes honey... and Winnie the Pooh likes honey... so do bears actually love honey?
One and a half thumbs up - I really enjoyed the movie; it was surprisingly funny and exciting; and yes, bears do eat honey! (and the bees and all).

Saturday 10 September 2016

Midnight in Paris

It is just so beautiful! The scenery, the music is so romantic.
Two thumbs up, and Rachel McAdams was very good at being unlikeable here.

Friday 9 September 2016

Hot Fuzz

"Not all fat white guys are the same"- Josh.
One thumbs up, but no Nick Frost was not Sam on Game of Thrones (or Hodor, Josh).

Saturday 3 September 2016

Bridesmaids

So the Hen's night has ended with tea and Bananagrams and Bridesmaids. I quite like this!
One and a half thumbs up - I honestly think the only thing stopping it from a full two thumbs up is Maya Rudolph's overly dreamy voice in it.

Friday 12 August 2016

Sausage Party

I heard the orgy scene was quite shocking, but boy was it something!
One and a quarter thumbs up, but also worried because my wisdom teeth hurt.

Saturday 6 August 2016

Uptown Girls

Thought Captain American Chris Evans was going to be in this, but then realised he is in the other nanny movie set in New York starring Scarlett Johanssen.
Half a thumbs up - it was a good easy movie for lunchtime.

Monday 18 July 2016

Lost in Translation

I never noticed the carpet samples bit - that was hilarious!
Half a thumbs up - it is funny at first (as the guy behind us chuckling could attest to), but I forgot how slow it becomes.

Tuesday 12 July 2016

Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice

"The question is, why is he (Superman) wearing winter clothes?" - Josh.
One and a half thumbs down, and a Razzie to the particularly stupid moment when they stopped fighting and became best friends just because their mothers happened to have the same name. Yes that really happened.

Tuesday 5 July 2016

My Best Friend's Wedding

Is that what 28 (Julia Roberts) looked like in the 90s? Is that was twenty (Cameron Diaz) looked like?!
One thumbs up, and not going to lie, some unfortunately familiar emotions were bubbling up.

Tuesday 28 June 2016

Finding Dory

I almost got hit on the head by a bottle of Sprite! Shouldn't you kids be in school??
Three quarters thumbs up - I felt it was a fairly forced storyline, but hold-onto-your-cheeks cuteness overload with the otter cuddle party!

Tuesday 21 June 2016

Superbad

Watched in two sessions: first in the bath (with bubbles!) and second whilst eating our improved stuffed calamari.
Two thumbs up, and yes I did watch this because of quoting "she wants my dick in and around her mouth."

Sunday 19 June 2016

The Hangover

"What do tigers dream of? When they take a little tiger snooze?"
One and three quarters thumbs up, and I thought of Josh's fluffy tiger head.

Saturday 18 June 2016

50/50

Josh could not have been more delighted when Seth Rogan ripped into the cheating girlfriend.
One thumbs up, and skepticism whether chemotherapy can cause radiation in semen.

Friday 17 June 2016

Rich Kids of Instagram

I am ashamed to say I was more fascinated by the fact that the Kazakhstani people looked more Asian than like Borat.
It was disgustingly fascinating - one thumbs up, and still chuckling at the guy who makes his girlfriend shower him with money for an Instagram photo (though partially tongue in cheek).

Saturday 11 June 2016

Money Monster

But really, Kyle was kind of an idiot to put all his money into one stock.
One and a quarter thumbs up - it was really good; I was nervous the whole time.

Finding Nemo

Josh was so hungry for McDonalds delivery that he couldn't even have cuddle time.
Two thumbs up, and a lopsided Quarter Pounder.

Thursday 9 June 2016

10 Things I Hate About You

I don't know what I would do if I were a teacher and a student cried her way through an angsty love poem - roll my eyes maybe.
Three quarters thumbs up, and remember when Alex Mak's prom dress was the height of cool?

Tuesday 7 June 2016

Shrek

Josh is Shrek because he hates everything; I am Donkey because I annoy him with my singing and flail my limbs when laughing sometimes.
One and a quarter thumbs up, and Donkey's brown eyes remind me of Schnitzel!

Sunday 5 June 2016

Ant Man

And that's why you never go full sub-atomic.
One thumbs up - it was funny and not as ridiculous at the name suggests, and sexy surprise points to Paul Rudd for getting ripped.

X-Men: Apocalypse

Of course the trailer is all about Jennifer Lawrence, even though other characters feature much more than Mystique does. Ugh.
Three quarters thumbs up - glad we didn't pay for it, but thumbs down for an overly hot cinema (even the man next to me was constantly fanning himself).

Friday 3 June 2016

About A Boy

Hugh Grant has blue eyes. I also wonder if he has children in real life.
One and a half thumbs up, and many laughs at Hugh Grant's zingers, including 'granola suicide lady'

Thursday 26 May 2016

Bridget Jones' Diary

It's almost becoming a 'comfort food' movie.
Two thumbs up.

Tuesday 24 May 2016

Anchorman

Paul Rudd is 47 this year... he really does not age, that charming man!
One and three quarters thumbs up.

Saturday 21 May 2016

Bruce Almighty

Steve Carrell's eyes when he is spilling jibberish!
One and a quarter thumbs up, and thumbs up to team Joshina for successful gnocchi!

Tuesday 17 May 2016

The Proposal

Hot naked sweaty bodies smack into each other. Best scene.
One thumbs up, and but thumbs down to me for yet another macaron fail.

Tuesday 10 May 2016

Bad Boys

"Fast-paced actioner... featuring two hip detectives"
Three quarters thumbs up - it was 'mother-bitchin' and enjoyable enough.

Saturday 30 April 2016

Chef

I hate the term "food-porn", but it is a bit stimulating like food-porn.
One thumbs up, and the storyline with his son is really sweet too.

Captain America: Civil War

When Chris Evans pulls back the helicopter, and his biceps and triceps are bulging... OH YES!
One thumbs up, and god he is so handsome!

Tuesday 26 April 2016

Marley and Me

I feel somewhat reassured that Josh would not allow a dog to be so badly trained hahah!
Half a thumbs up.

Sunday 24 April 2016

The Lobster

The French maid dancing amongst the other poncho and backpack clad silent dancers in the forest!
One thumbs up for the agony of unanswered questions, and one thumbs up for Parknasilla Hotel, Ireland for actual being as beautiful as it was filmed.

Saturday 23 April 2016

The Princess Bride

I laughed when he flops his arm for the "hands in" gee up.
Zero thumbs up, it was okay but by no means as good as 8/10 on IMDB or its internet popularity.

Tuesday 19 April 2016

Rush Hour 2

SHAAMON!
One thumbs up, hehehe.

Sunday 17 April 2016

Tropic Thunder

Never go full retard.
One thumbs up, and 1-1 in Battleship.

Friday 15 April 2016

You've Got Mail

Annabelle's singing (and Tom Hanks' exasperated face) always makes me laugh, but she is so pretty and sweet; she can get away with it.
Two thumbs up, and personal thumbs up to me for rising to the challenge after coffee buttercream ultimate fail.

An Education

I always cry when her dad talks to her through the door, with tea and biscuits in hand, because I feel that is exactly what my dad would be like.
One and a half thumbs up, and extra points for the Paris montage on its own - it is divine!

Wednesday 13 April 2016

The Graduate

I did not like it at all in the beginning (oh that went from Mrs Robinson introduction to clothes off very quickly), but then it all came together and was very charming and surprisingly funny!
One and a half thumbs up - it was sweet, awkwardly hilarious and naive, a bit dark and vintage beautiful.

Sunday 10 April 2016

Ocean's Eleven

This was made in 2002. That is 14 years ago! Crazy!
Two thumbs up - it still holds up very well.

Saturday 9 April 2016

Manhattan

I turned around to Josh at that exact moment and said it was so beautiful, not knowing it was iconic or on the DVD cover.
One thumbs up - was afraid it would just be about Woody Allen and an underage girl, but it moved on quite nicely, and I liked this much better than what I remembered of Annie Hall.

Tuesday 5 April 2016

Kung Fu Panda 3

Free popcorn at the Dendy for "family movies." Woohoo!
Zero thumbs up - meh, I laughed a few times but mostly at the goose dad.

Gone With The Wind

"I'm thinking about how rich we are"
I love how both these quotes are from the same character - Scarlett is everything.
Two thumbs up, but personal thumbs down to Rhett because he is a very violent and rapey husband.

Saturday 2 April 2016

The Devil Wears Prada

Stumbled across these beauties:
Two thumbs up - I was supposed to go to bed but then this came on, and then well,
of course I must watch it.

The Help

Jessica Chastain is never immediately recognisable.
One thumbs up, and just found out Bryce Dallas Howard is Ron Howard's daughter.

Finding Nemo

When we were at the Great Barrier Reef, Josh and I saw a family of Nemos in an anemone home also overlooking the vast ocean! It was a highlight!
Two thumbs up - my comfort movie this morning (damn sniffles).

Tuesday 22 March 2016

Terminator 2: Judgement Day

There is something about the way evil cop Terminator (T1000) runs that reminds me of Waluigi.
One and a half thumbs up? "Affirmative."

Monday 21 March 2016

Zootopia

Calling it already, but the 2016 movie gif of the year is the sloth reacting to the joke!!
One and three quarters thumbs up - I knew nothing about this movie, and ended up constantly laughing - but points off because "V-Max atmosphere" did not deliver the smells and vibrations Rebecca was hoping for!

Sunday 20 March 2016

Wedding Crashers

Beautiful holiday house, a yatch, quail hunting - could they be more white and rich?
Half a thumbs up.

Saturday 12 March 2016

The Dark Knight

Heath Ledger's lip smack is simultaneously so gross and so on point.
One and three quarters thumbs up, and I have a good feeling about our new housemate Penelope.

Tuesday 8 March 2016

The Terminator

That is so scary for her; how could you ever feel safe?
Half a thumbs up, and pleased that Josh likes the mousse-fail enough to eat it for the second time haha!

Hail Caesar!

"Would that it were so simple?" with Ralph Fiennes had me cracking up!
One thumbs up - it was enjoyable and beautiful, but a bit disjointed and left with some unanswered questions for me.

Sunday 6 March 2016

The Inbetweeners

Josh literally "phwoared" at the blonde girl hehehe.
One thumbs up and another thumbs up for hilarious awkward dance.

Sunday 28 February 2016

How to Make Friends and Alienate People

He just threw her novel down. All her hard work and he just threw it. How disrespectful!
Zero thumbs up, and thumbs down for my stomach ache - reminded myself why I don't buffet well.

Friday 26 February 2016

Yes Man

How can she afford to live herself when she only does odd jobs and hobbies for a living?
Half a thumbs up, and if he thinks I am not spontaneous, well then maybe I have an idea for Easter... depending on my roster :(

Wednesday 17 February 2016

Casino Royale

I always like that scene in the shower where he comforts her.
One and a half thumbs up for sexy fast paced action, and personal thumbs up to Eva Green for being so beautiful and thin but still having amazing boobs.

Tuesday 16 February 2016

Brooklyn

I am so grateful I live in an age where moving overseas doesn't mean you may never see people again - can't even imagine how difficult it was for our parents.
Two thumbs up - it was everything I love; beautiful everything, young love and family.

Sunday 14 February 2016

Deadpool

*I can just close my eyes here*....Um Josh.... so how did that guy die?
Half a thumbs down - Ryan Reynolds looks like a lap cheong, and now I'm worried I'm not crazy enough for my boy.

Thursday 11 February 2016

He's Just Not That Into You

As shitty as Bradley Cooper and Scarlett Johansson's characters are, you still can't help but feel sorry for her stuck in that closet.
One thumbs down, but a secret trashy-but-good-trashy half thumbs up.

Tuesday 9 February 2016

Mean Girls

I wonder how many times the real Glen Coco has to deal with "You go Glen Coco!"
Two thumbs up - there is not a single wasted second in this movie - and a crescendoing slow clap to whoever at the White House posted this piece of brilliance.

Monday 8 February 2016

Inglorious Basterds

Just noticed that Hans Landa still pours and serves Brad Pitt and Ryan a glass of wine even though they are handcuffed behind their backs.
Two thumbs up, and tonight differentiating between Melanie Laurent and Lea Seydoux.

Tuesday 2 February 2016

The Hateful Eight

You got me hooked from who poisoned the coffee.
One thumbs up, but points off to Tarantino for being too slow and time-wasting for about the first hour.

Monday 1 February 2016

Moonrise Kingdom

I feel like a bitch for thinking this, but Sam is quite a condescending know-it-all and I can understand why he is an outcast amongst the other children.
One thumbs up - it is still so beautiful!

Sunday 31 January 2016

The Big Short

Left the cinema feeling fairly scared about the whole situation... the banks were so brazen, and it could so happen again.
One and three quarters thumbs up, and personal thumbs up Anthony Bourdain and Selena Gomez for financially educational celebrity cameos, and to Nicole for lending some fridge space!

Saturday 30 January 2016

Forrest Gump

They used blue fabric wrapped around Lt. Dan's legs and later digitally removed them...  I thought it was going to be green half pants.
One thumbs up, and remember the time Josh went full retard with "Jennnnnyy"

Friday 22 January 2016

Argo

Oh my goodness that was so tense and so stressful! But of course that part didn't actually happen.
One and three quarters thumbs up, disbelief that the other hostages were there for 444 days.

Tuesday 19 January 2016

The Revenant

I shouldn't have laughed when the bear rolled over Leo... but I did.
Half a thumbs up, but mostly thumbs up for how beautiful the scenery and cinematography was.

Sunday 17 January 2016

Grease

Oh my god, I am the goody two shoes Sandra Dee of Josh's group of friends :(
One thumbs up, but one thumbs down for the pock-marked man and old woman dancer - they don't even go here!

Friday 15 January 2016

Carol

Cate Blanchett is very good at playing rich women - socialites, royalty, rich elves. I have never seen her as a poor person!
Three quarters thumbs up - I was going to give it zero thumbs, but it started to pick up in the middle.

Tuesday 12 January 2016

Fargo

No, you said Argo.
One and a half thumbs up - it is not a comedy, or even black comedy. It's a very good movie, and she is funny, but the film is not funny.

Saturday 9 January 2016

Bridesmaids

Hilarious; but tonight, was not as hilarious as Anna's story Act I Scene I (by Jenny), or Anna's rap anthem (by Yvonne).
Two thumbs up!

Friday 8 January 2016

The King's Speech

Josh thinks George VI is a cool name because it has a 'V' in it...
Five sixths thumbs up - couldn't decide between three quarters or one thumbs.

Tuesday 5 January 2016

The Royal Tenebaums

I didn't even realise there were spotted mice throughout the film; completely missed that story detail until Josh told me.
One and a half thumbs up, and look! It's a Schnitzel beagle!

A Little Princess

I still like it so much, even after all this time. Oh the nostalgia!
One thumbs up, and personal thumbs up to Yvonne for gifting me this, though I really don't remember forcing the girls to watch it too haha!

Jersey Boys

I always laugh at the towel bit, but was slightly disappointed to hear it may not be true.
One thumbs up, and a self-awarded personal thumbs up for getting the spaghetti carbonara right with minimal scrambling.

Sunday 3 January 2016

Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens

Stuff Katniss, and the Hunger Games. REY, and her amazing costume, is the role model to aspire to! Go Rey! Team Rey!!
I loved it! - One and three quarters thumbs up, and also bemused that Bill Weasley and Juntao! are in the same movie.

Friday 1 January 2016

Star Wars: Episode VI: Return of the Jedi

Jabba the Hutt is possibly the ugliest character I have ever seen; he is so disgusting - and poor Leia had to touch him!
Three quarters thumbs up - I can see why fans are angry at the altered Anakin spirit, but the ending is still too cheesy in both versions.
