Blackfish

There is some really raw footage of some of these attacks, which are really quite horrifying to watch.
One thumbs up, for its emotional impact on me in that I am 1. terrified for the Seaworld trainers, and 2. It makes me feel uneasy about recommending Seaworld even though admittedly the Shamu show was so much fun when we were kids (... by the way which I've also found out is the name of the show, not the specific whale so we never saw original Shamu!)

Love Actually

It was described as a horror dolphin documentary, accompanied by a grainy black and white negative close up of a dolphin... thus I was kind of hoping for an expose on killer dolphins...

I remember I was mulling and sobbing over that quote, terrified at what that meant about myself. You walked in as I was trying to hold back the tears and mop up my damp face, and you asked if I was okay. I pretended like everything was fine, but you insisted that I wasn't. And even though I was thinking of someone else, the fact that you could see past my facade and that you knew, was a very precious moment for me.

The double eyelid surgery wasn't as great as i thought it would be, but her boobs did look really good after.

About Time

Having just known that Domhnall Gleeson is Bill Weasley, there is something extremely comforting in seeing a ginger Weasley face.
Just shy of two thumbs up; those points were taken off because I feel it was marketed in an entirely different way to what the essence of the movie was (romantic comedy vs. father/son relationship).

Frances Ha

Even though it was slightly uplifting in the end, I still felt sad and lost for Frances for the majority of the time.
One and a half thumbs up, plus one million hipster points for watching a modern movie in black and white, in an intimate new Surry Hills cinema, that sold 'popcorn cocktails'

Borat

My mum comes in and sits on the couch at exactly the moment they naked wrestle; I am impressed she was not that disgusted (or that phased even!)
One and a half thumbs up plus a high five!

Drop Dead Gorgeous

One and a half thumbs up - this movie is underrated, but so great!

Ratatouille

Did you know that the ratatouille Remy makes is actually 'confit byaldi' which is a more contemporary version of it, defined by thin slices of vegetables and baked (cf. larger chunks that are fried and tossed).
One and a half thumbs up - one thumbs because this movie makes me feel warm and lovely, and half because I physically cocooned myself in a warm fuzzy throw blanket.

Step Brothers

I've never watched this movie in its entirety, but I've somehow watched the balls on drums scene like four times.
Half a thumbs down, because it's not really worth watching past the first 15mins or so.

The Notebook

I think Phil once said he thought Ryan Gosling's face or body looked like a sausage... I kind of saw that here...

21 Jump Street

Oddly enough, this movie (and that *points up*) actually made me like Channing Tatum, over say Magic Mike.

Harold and Kumar go to White Castle

Before I knew White Castle was a fast food chain, I thought this would involve a stoned journey to a medieval castle of sorts.
Half a thumbs up because it was only okay funny, but one thumbs down because there was no armour involved.

Finding Nemo

Eating sushi whilst watching this hehe.
One thumbs up because this was Anders the Swedish boat guy's all-time favourite movie, one slap in the face for when Jing said she did not like 'Finding Nemo', but overall TWO THUMBS UP because it is one of the best.

Kill Bill Vol. 2

I always maintained that Vol. 1 was far superior, but now Vol. 2 is holding its own quite nicely - and by gosh, this is a sexy, sexy song during the end credits.
One and a half thumbs up for climbing up the personal thumbs up ratings system, but a frown face for having to do the washing twice because omo powder sticks to clothes.

A League of Their Own

Feel-good movie.
One thumbs up, and because I needed a break from researching accommodation.

Prada Candy (episodes 2 and 3)

The best thing to come out of this is the chorus of the song L'Idole by Jacques Dutronc (seeing as I cannot appreciate the spoken French verses).
One thumbs down still, because I feel the dim night settings do not showcase the clothing or accessories as well as it should have, especially given how the whimsy of the storyline suits the pastel retro femininity of the collection.

Ultimate Factories: Coca Cola

Because the Coca Cola formula is the world's best secret, this ended up being more about the bottling process.
One thumbs down - I cannot believe I am giving anything Coke related a thumbs down.

Mega Factories: Lego

The essential Lego brick has not changed shape since 1958, since having the bottom design (which was previously hollow).
One and a half thumbs up for having learnt so much about the design process, plastic injection moulding and factories, on an early Sunday morning.

Amelie

Katrina Chim dislikes: people who snap their fingers to get someone's attention. She also dislikes patients who are late and do not apologise for it. Katrina Chim likes: Coca-Cola, a full moon, and synchronising her breathing with the rise and fall of a man's chest.
Two thumbs up, for how pretty and whimsical it is.

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest

Jenny was still going 'oh no!' at certain parts - even though she's watched it many times already! (how adorable).
Half a thumbs up, but then one thumbs down for the weirdly sexual-in-a-gross-way kraken giant tentacles (though I can't figure if I am more grossed out by them, or grossed out at myself for thinking this).

Liberal Arts

That was the meanest one night stand ever - and by meanest I mean she (Alison Janney) was a horrible person; not 'oh wow that was some wicked sex we just had' mean.
One and a half thumbs down because it is four days since I first started this, and I've fallen asleep on two separate occasions trying to finish it.

I love love love LOVE this film.

A collection of the most picturesque postcard moments from le film.

When I was in high school, I had a friend who wasn't allowed to watch this movie because her mum thought the title was pornographic.
Two thumbs up, but "*cough cough* I'm sick" (fever shivering today).

This may be the prettiest movie I've ever seen - the costumes, accessories, mise en scene, actual Versaille location!
One thumbs down because despite it being a feast for the eyes, the story was not well done.

Unsatisfying - nothing happened for either the assasination or the lesbian front.

Take My Picture (a short doco)

I knew Anna Dello Russo was mutton dressed as lamb, but seeing her trot about showing off for the street photographers was confirming and HILARIOUS.
One thumbs up for calling out the peacocking that goes along with this phenomena, and surprise smiles for Susie Bubble's beautiful English accent!

Pitch Perfect

Simultaneous movie conditions: new to all of us, light-hearted, and no Big Mommas!
One thumbs down for failed synchronisation (haha!), another thumbs down for this pathetic attempt at a 'female-Hangover' movie, and one ick face at all these little black speck bugs that have flown into my room taking advantage of the open windows.

50 cent tickets, and questionably fresher popcorn?
One and a half thumbs up for the riches of this Tarantino-styled Western, and for NOT feeling as if the film dragged on (unlike the general critic opinion).

The Hangover

Sitting on the couch, sticking my finger in my mouth, and discovering that the inside of the bottom row of teeth is smoother on the right side than the left side... I wonder why?
One and three quarters thumbs up.

Inception

I don't understand - if the architect can plan the dreamscape, but the other person fills it with their projections, who is the primary dreamer? Whose dream are we in? Is it based on who falls asleep first? How can a second person alter the dreamscape of the first dreamer? Or does order not matter?
One thumbs up for a slightly better sense of it this second time round, and another for how delicious Tom Hardy is sans Bane-mask or voice (English! accented)

Beginners

Well I liked the 'this is what pretty/pets/happy/weather look liked' montages.
One thumbs down, because considering the IMDB one line blurb (elderly father has terminal cancer, and a young male lover) - it was just underwhelming and boring.

An Education

Such a pretty film (especially the Paris montage), though obviously with a creepy undercurrent.
One thumbs up.

Somewhere

Beyond boring.
Two thumbs down - one thumbs down for making the audience wait over an hour before we get a measly nanosecond of personality from the protagonist, and another thumbs down for desecrating the Foo Fighters 'Hero' with room-service pole dancers (not happy, Sofia Coppola).

The Intouchables

Heart warming enough to neutralise the boo-urns moment in missing out on high tea with the girls tomorrow/today.

One thumbs up, and now to find someone to test out the erogenous ear thing haha!!

To Rome With Love

Jesse Eisenberg reminds me of what I imagine a young Woody Allen would have been - all fast talking and full of neuroses.
One thumbs down for starting off on the wrong foot with this particular narrator, and then just becoming weird and unnecessary at parts (when it could have been better as a collection of separate vignettes, methinks).

Bridesmaids

I still don't understand how you bleach an asshole.
One thumbs up, but fail thumbs down for waiting so long to download 'The Intouchables' with subtitles... to find out it did not come with subtitles.

When Harry Met Sally

If you get over the fact that Billy Crystal is not the best looking/Mike Wazowski, it is wonderfully witty and not at all lovey-dovey.
One and a half thumbs up, and an extra half for the mini-oven timer going 'ding!' at the EXACT moment Meg Ryan finishes her fake orgasm teehee.

The Proposal

Whilst watching the cricket... well mostly the cricket.

One thumbs up for Reynolds/Bullock accidental naked smushing, one thumbs up for chant/rap, but one thumbs down for dropped high balls and ensuing consequences hehe.

Two EPIC thumbs up, for still portraying the hopelessness and desperation that come along with a clash of revolution, poverty and uprising - despite it being all-singing.

Becoming Jane

My heart drops everytime I watch their encounter in the woods.
One and a half thumbs up, and smug points in proving to myself that I am indeed introverted because I was rather looking forward to house-alone time to do nothing, and watch movies, and eat at funny times (but is the end of it? #changesinthehouse #unsure #hypocritical?).

Legally Blonde

Endorphins make you happy, and happy people just don't kill their husbands.
One thumbs up, but some minus some sweaty points because it was too hot for soup tonight.

Silver Linings Playbook

The line was so long that Yvonne had time to buy a peach and some grapes.

Being stoic, and sentimental, in the name of love.
One thumbs up for a movie that does indeed live up to its reputation, and another thumbs for the delightful little champange and brandy/spirit glasses (why don't we drink out of those anymore?)

Powerpuff Girls (full movie)

Am late to meet the others out at the Rocks for Australia Day, because I put myself in a pho-induced food coma whilst watching Powerpuff Girls.

One thumbs up for how adorable they are, but one thumbs down for how uncomfortable I am now. 

Life of Pi

A most faithful retelling of the novel, with utterly beautiful vivid flourescent imagery.
Two thumbs up with much kudos for Suraj Sharma for a largely one man job, and a personal personal thumbs up to me for cinema-going it alone *pat own shoulder.*

Midnight in Paris

I read an article earlier today where they said an important part of the art of conversation is not necessarily the content, but how you felt after - and it made me smile to remember that when I first saw this movie, I was having a bad day and we went to the local cinema to try to cheer us up - and it worked! (as well as raining after too)
Two thumbs up for such a beautiful movie that will always make me smile.
