The Grand Budapest Hotel

It was ridiculous how fidgety and sleepy I was.
I am sad to say this, but only three-quarters thumbs up, because though it was beautiful as always and Ralph Fiennes was hilarious, it was not as charming or funny as his other films. And I am ashamed to say I got very scared at the head.

Bridesmaids

Goddamn that is fresh.
One and a half thumbs up.

Minority Report

The macaron penis did not reach the heights I hoped it would :(
Two thumbs up, because in all seriousness, this is possibly the best sci-fi movie.

Captain America: The Winter Soldier

Because "Mann Karate" turned out to be a Bollywood movie...
One thumbs up, because it was entertaining, and because Samuel L Jackson is nice like that.

Wadjda

Even though all those double standards and injustices remain for Saudi Arabian females, I really liked that they kept her victory small, but her's nonetheless.
One and a half thumbs up, and smack talk points to the mum (pfft where are you bleeding from, your virginity?)

The Prestige

It just gets better every time I watch it.
Two thumbs up, for continually blowing my mind!

Election

That bee sting face!
Two thumbs up!

Inside Llewelyn Davis (29/03/2014)

Brought to you by the hot tall cop (who already had a girlfriend boo-urns) from a sharehouse inspection.
One and a half thumbs down, for being so underwhelming and because the cat did not feature in it as much as it was made out to.

Zombieland

This is my favourite 'scary' movie - which shows both what a great movie it is, and what a wimp I am.
Two thumbs up, but buttery mouth points off because 100g of microwave popcorn is too much!

Monuments Men (21/03/2014)

So it's exactly like Ocean's Eleven.
Meh - zero thumbs up but points for me because I finished the whole box of popcorn!

Born Rich

The Italian baron delivers gold: "In my will and wish for cultivation and culture, is, you know, sort of, (undecipherable word) inside - Love and Sex. So I find that it is often, I am reading a book, and I'm thinking about pussy. But then as soon as I get the pussy, I am thinking about a book. So for me, it is very problematic, that."
One thumbs up because this one was much more fascinating and had much better flow, and sexy hot points to Mr. Jamie Johnson who I've realised sort of looks like Christian Bale/Bruce Wayne!

The One Percent

I shouldn't laugh... but I did... when asked of the south side Chicago man "Will your son ever become wealthy?" "NO! He's not going to become a rapper! So no..."
One quarter of a thumbs up because though the issues are interesting, it just was not very well made, Jamie Johnson J&J!

Nebraska

Seen at the Palace Verona in Paddington, but I was so uncomfortable (for some reason) that I was a squirming mess at the end.
One thumbs up for the old wife who flashed her vagine at the tombstone of an old crush!

Gravity

Fei's mind was more blown by meeting Andrea, than by 'Gravity'.
One and a half space-floating thumbs up.

Tuesday, 18 February 2014

Mandela: Long Walk To Freedom

I didn't know Winnie Mandela was such a guerilla.
One thumbs up.

Blue Jasmine

When I grow up, I want to be a Woody Allen heroine (even though they are pretty flawed... especially this one).
One and a half thumbs up and a hashtag #firstworldproblems.

Shame

Michael Fassbender. Shame. Wow.
One and a quarter thumbs up, because I loved how poetic the piano score over the dramatic scenes was, but an unexpected lol moment for when he somehow feels the need to wipe the toilet seat before he stands up anyway to jack off.

Grease

Now both mum and dad are exclaiming at how fat John Travolta has become!
One thumbs up, and further realisation at what a drip Sandy is.

Her

This is all equal parts creepy, and frightening (computers should NOT be self-aware!)
One and two-thirds thumbs up; and I am having an existential moment, because if you take Descarte's 'I think, therefore I am' as true, then she does exist because she is thinking and evolving... but she also does not exist. Hmm...

12 Years A Slave

I came into this movie with no idea what it would be about (well partly, because the title does give it away) - but I came out thoroughly impressed.
One and a half thumbs up, incredulous points that there is another Steve McQueen, and SHUSH glares for the old ladies behind us who do not know how to whisper.
