Parallel Mothers

Rain temporarily lost the ability to read clocks during this. It's 9:35am! Not 1:30pm!
One thumbs up - I quite liked the mothers storyline, but could have done without the history storyline.

Top Gun: Maverick

They were not afraid to repeat the same themes/bangers that worked for original Top Gun. I like it!
Two thumbs up - might be hasty, but I cannot flaw it. There is action, there is sexiness, there are great songs, there is ham but without too much cheesiness. Perfecto!

Fast Five

Me (internally): When is 'This. Is. Brazil!" going to happen? I can't see this happening organically. Did the boys just make up the line?"
Daniel: *snatches away my cup noodles* "You are not ready for this"
Me: "Wait! What? Ohhh"
THIS. IS. BRAZIL!
One thumbs up - it was ridiculous, and fun. This waaay better than Tokyo Drift (especially the wet rag lead guy), which in hindsight did not deserve it's rating.

The Northman

I think I might be the only real-life person who finds Anya Taylor Joy good-looking.
One thumbs down - like Game of Thrones but incoherent dialogue and not enough sexiness.

Chungking Express

I wish I could have been a fly on the wall watching us watch this. Nicole and Matt on the ends smiling at the fun, whilst me, Reb and Daniel are just in the middle aghast.
Zero thumbs up - It was all thumbs up in story one, but then thumbs down for story two. I know I shouldn't mark movies down because I don't like a character but the second girl just ground my gears. It was not cute for me.

Everything Everywhere All At Once

I laughed, I cried, I literally gagged and vomited a little in my mouth twice (chapstick, gum).
One and a half thumbs up - obviously biased, but I liked that it had its very Asian moments but was not an 'Asian story' per se, and that people are liking it for its originality.

Turning Red

My reason for wanting to watch this was from reading a fantastic Guardian article ("Critics be warned: Turning Red is defiantly Asian and female - and there's more to come" by Jeff Yang). Which always makes me recall an old comment that certain "Prime Demographic" will have no problems connecting to a fish, or a car, but find non-white protagonists and stories too unrelatable. Piss Off.
One and a quarter thumbs up - I have newfound respect for Billie Eilish now that I realise she and Finneas have helped create the CERTIFIED BANGER "Nobody Like U". Yes I am a 4*Townie now.

Windfall

I just didn't believe Jason Segel's character at all.
Zero thumbs up.

Before Sunrise

I could not disagree more. Who gives a shit about being good at things. Literally the only thing that matters is relationships.
One and three quarters thumbs up - Oh I loved it! Even the lulls, and frustrating characters moments - I liked that I didn't like them at times.

You've Got Mail

I am giving moderate consideration to go on 'Mastermind' with this movie as my specialist subject.
Two thumbs up - this brings me a lot of joy, and just makes me smile with twee and delight at so many parts! Also Frank and Patricia are funnier and funnier with every re-watch.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens

Spotted Juntao in this (one of Leia's admirals). Or so I thought. The actor is one and the same. But turns out I have been calling him Juntao when his Rush Hour character is actually NOT Juntao!
One thumbs and a quarter thumbs up - I also completely blanked on Harrison Ford's character's name. Not-Chewy, not-Harrison, not-Indiana Jones, not-Lando Calrissian, not-Harrison (again)... Solo! Han Solo!

After Yang

"Oh this would have been so hard to film" - Nicole, in regards to a dance scene. A simple not-in-sync dance. It would NOT have been hard.
Half a thumbs up - on paper there was a lot for me to like, but it didn't really live up to that. Was also annoyed that everyone's tone was TOO CALM the entire time; no variation.

King Richard

Post-movie, the following searches were attempted:
1. For Will Smith's jacket because I want that look (on brand behaviour for me)
2. For candid photos of Uncle 5 Chu Loc (unexpected!)
Half a thumbs up - I was impressed they didn't necessarily make him likeable, and kept those difficult or frustrating moments in.

Gone Girl

Surprisingly, one of the better/more realistic portrayals of a brother and sister relationship.
One and a half thumbs up - was prompted to watch this again after reading a Reddit thread about movie villains. Rosamund Pike is so chilling in this, it is so good.

The Green Knight

I tend to make my own weird rules about magical worlds.
Magic? Talking fox? Tree man? Yeah I can believe that.
Gigantic giants? Yeah nah that is too much.

Half a thumbs up - final vibe verdict: 50% hot for knight Dev Patel, 40% story-line confused, 10% scared.

Power of the Dog

Have you ever seen anyone angrily hula hoop? Because the boy did.
Side note: he was fantastic and any scene with him in it was riveting. Hula hooping included.
One and a quarter thumbs up - and we did not need to use emergency Kirsten Dunst (Bring it On DVD cover) because we landed on Gherkin Dunst. Hehe.

Spiderman: No Way Home

Spiderman banter was the best part.
One thumbs up - decent amount of fun, but whoever said it was the best Marvel movie ever is so so wrong.

House of Gucci

This literally happened.
Zero thumbs up - no-one has any business dissing Lady Gaga's accent when Jared Leto's WALUIGI impression was right there. Bad movie, fun times.

Licorice Pizza

Two main thoughts on Alana (my curiosity drawcard here):
1. I was so irrationally annoyed that her name was also Alana (PTA's fault)
2. She was really good at exuding hot-girl-energy despite being, to me, not-hot.
One thumbs down - at one point I was looking around the cinema and counting how many fire extinguishers there were (one). PTA, I have given you so many chances and we just do not click at all. Never again, I shall stop wasting my time.

Bridget Jones' Diary

I spent the whole time without pants on (costume requirement).
Two thumbs up - classic MovieClubFoodClub to be running late (that omelette isn't going to make a mess by itself), and interrogating other opinions afterwards. This is a safe space, but still a judgemental space.
